MLB Schedule Basics: 162 Games and the October Postseason
Thirty teams each play 162 games between late March or early April and the end of September. That is the longest schedule of any major league, so there is a game almost every day and start times vary between afternoon and evening.
Twelve teams reach the postseason, six from each league. The Wild Card round is best-of-three, the Division Series is best-of-five, and the League Championship Series and the World Series are best-of-seven.
